Travellers wanted to get behind the wheel and explore! Get to know this diverse and beautiful country by driving from east to west in search of adventure, all the while greeted by the warmest smiles you’ll find in Africa.
Day 1 to 1 – Amanzi Lodge, Harare
Arrive to Harare Airport and collect your 4x4. Spend the day acclimatising to the flow of the road and enjoying the famous tree lined streets of the Sunshine City. Not to be missed is a visit to our very own Patrick Mavros silversmith studio in the Umwinsidale Hills.
Day 2 to 4 – Aberfoyle Lodge, Honde Valley
An early morning start towards the mythical Eastern Highlands for one of the most spectacular drives in southern Africa. A birder’s paradise, Aberfoyle Lodge sits amongst tea plantations, riparian forests and the roaring Nyamkombe river. Enjoy nature walks, tree-top canopy tours, fishing, rafting ‘bum slides’ or kayaking through the mountain streams.
Day 4 to 5 – Leopard Rock, The Vumba
Continue from the sunny tea slopes to the misty mountains of the Bvumba, but not before stopping in at Tony’s Patisserie. This cosy haven, and the legendary ‘Tony’, serve the most delectable cakes and coffees anywhere in Africa! Spend the night in the epitome of colonial romance at the historic Leopard Rock.
Day 5 to 8 – Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge, Gonarezhou National Park
Continue southbound in search of big game. Gonarezhou means “Place Of The Elephants” and is largely undiscovered by the outside world. This striking land is one of the most pristine wildernesses in Africa. Cheetah, wild dogs, hyena, buffalo, hippo and giraffe are residents.
